Will Jasper County soon be under a burn ban as Newton County now is?

Jasper County, Tx- With the high winds and wildfires being seen throughout our area, the topic of burn bans has become the topic of conversation recently.

Newton County has this morning issued a county wide ban on any type of outdoor burning.

ETB has since reached out to Jasper County Judge Mark Allen regarding this topic.

Allen said, "A burn ban has not been issued for Jasper County at this time. We are continuing to monitor conditions and reassess daily. Right now, here is the data that we are looking at for our side of Texas."

Allen said that as we enter warmer weather over the next few days and dry conditions begin to increase, we’ll take another look at it. "However," Allen warned, "We are urging all of our citizens in Jasper County to use every precaution when burning. If the wind speed is too high, it is best to wait before burning. As always, closely monitor any fire started and have a sustainable water source nearby to extinguish and never leave a fire unattended. Also, it’s never safe to burn trash or vegetative debris near a wood line or structure. The more precautions that we take now, lessen the need for a burn ban in the future, and will help in reducing the fatigue that our firemen endure responding to constant fire calls that could have been avoided."
