Wildcats Take District!

Tonight was something truly special, the Wildcats walked away District Champions! This team had been wrote off by every major news and sports outlet as finishing 4th or 5th in district. Instead of accepting what they had been labeled as, they decided to determine their own fate. The boys made a decision that this would be their year! The road to get here was a long and hard one with several roadblocks to overcome. The energy on the sidelines this year was different, it was all the hard work, the time spent together culminating an atmosphere of WE>ME. This game tonight set the winner in first place of district. The Orangefield Bobcats had went undefeated in district all season and they were looking to put another notch on their belt. Orangefield struck first in the 1st Qtr jumping up 7-0. On the ensuing kick-off return B. Mahathay took it to the house with about a 65 yard return, but the two point conversion was no good. This  allowed the Bobcats to retain the lead. It wasn’t until the 2nd Qtr, when TJ Allen punched it in on a short run the followed up with a pass to B. Melvin for the extra two. The Bobcats had a successful drive with a short run for a TD, but the field goal extra point went wide. The Wildcats held the lead 14-13 with 2;17 left in the half. The Wildcats defense was able to force a 4 and out giving the Wildcats back the ball. A. Anderson finished the half off with a short TD run, but was stopped on the two point conversion. The score was 20-13 Wildcats at halftime. With 8:15 on the clock B. Mahathay gets a pick six then the Wildcats punch it in for two. Wildcats up 28-13 at the point. Wildcats with 2:48 left in the game, have A. Anderson punch another in but again stopped short on the two point conversion. Kirbyville jumps ahead 28-13 with under 2 minutes left in the game. The Bobcats were able to have another successful drive and score with 1:48 left, but couldn’t get the two point conversion. The Wildcats recovered the onside kick and were able to run out the clock winning the first district title in 13 years 34-19!! The Wildcats defense played stellar tonight forcing multiple 4th down scenarios. The Wildcats offense showed their ability to adjust to different style of defense and still put points up. The Wildcats have a bye week next week. We will update playoff details as they’re released. Congratulations to the Wildcat 3A-1 region III district 10 Champions!
