What Would John Wayne Think? by Sal Moriarity
I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. Winston Churchill
Tell a lie long enough, and loud enough, and people will believe it. Adolf Hitler
Tucker Carlson is a popular right wing media personality; Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox News was the number one cable news commentary show when it ended in 2023. Currently, he is the host of The Tucker Carlson Show on Spotify. It is one of the most popular programs on Spotify, regularly in the running for most subscriptions on the platform. The podcast has in excess of ten million subscribers.
Recently, Mr. Carlson had Darryl Cooper on his show. Mr. Cooper, who I was unaware of before this week, describes himself as a historian. He also oversees a podcast called MartyrMade. It is a top ranked show on iTunes. He has over a quarter million followers on X.
Carlson called Cooper “the best and most honest popular historian in the United States”. The program is accessible to anyone interested in listening to the conversation, but here are three points Mr. Cooper made on the program:
The “villain of the second world war” was Winston Churchill.
There was no Nazi plan to exterminate the Jews. It was a matter of logistics and millions of people died in concentration camps due to poor planning.
The British were engaged in “rank terrorism” for 1940 bombing missions over Germany.
Mr. Cooper's opinions are nothing new. They, in fact, echo the viewpoints of Mark Weber, editor of The Journal of Historical Review, and English author David Irving. Among their views, the Allied bombing of Dresden in World War II can be equated with Auschwitz, and the American bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with Treblinka. It is their view there were no good guys in World War II. If anything, the Allied Forces were the aggressors.
Regarding the podcast, Elon Musk posted (on X) it was “very interesting” and “worth watching”. It appears Mr. Musk has since deleted the post.
Regarding Mr. Cooper's comments on The Tucker Carlson Show, Mr. Carlson responded, “Why the hysteria?”
