Vidor woman arrested for leaving her 3 year old home alone

Sandi Saulsbury

Wednesday morning, at approximately 7:22 a.m., Jasper County Sheriff's deputies responded to Sunset Road at the far south end of the county in reference to a missing 3 year old child.

Deputies were advised that the child was last seen 30 minutes prior to the call as the mother left the child at home alone asleep and took other children to school.

As emergency units were responding, it was learned that the child was located after being found by a neighbor walking down the street. The child had awoken and left the residence prior to the mother returning.

The mother was identified as 28-year-old Erin Elizabeth Hebert, of Vidor (south Jasper County).

Based on the deputies investigation, a probable cause affidavit was presented to Jasper County Justice of the Peace Steve Conner and a warrant was issued for Hebert’s arrest. Hebert was charged with Abandon/Endanger a Child with Intent to Return, a State Jail Felony.

Hebert was arrested and placed in the Jasper County Jail.

Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard would like the public to remember that Hebert is innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Havard and his staff are committed to combating all criminal activity.
