Updated information on Saturdays officer involved shooting

DPS Media Sergeant Shana Clark has just released the name of the individual who was shot and killed in an officer involved shooting on Saturday.


The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Charles McCauley of Kirbyville.


Sunday's press release on the shooting:

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Texas Ranger Division, are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred at a private residence off Farm-to-Market Road 82, which occurred Saturday, December 28, 2024.


The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 6:08 p.m., the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to a domestic disturbance involving a suspect with gun. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Kirbyville Police Department, and a Texas State Trooper responded and observed the suspect and a 14-year-old juvenile in a physical altercation with a gun outside of the residence. Officers gave orders to disengage and to drop the weapon, and once the juvenile disengaged, the suspect pointed the weapon at the officers and the officers shot the suspect.


The suspect was pronounced deceased on scene by a Justice of the Peace, their information is not immediately available.


Following the shooting, as standard procedure, the involved State Trooper was placed on administrative leave. For information relating to other officers involved, please reach out to their respective agencies.

Details are slowly coming in, but from what we understand, an officer involved shooting has left a Kirbyville man dead tonight.


According to Jasper County Dispatch, a call came through at around 6:05 Saturday night saying that the man was threatening suicide by cop. Dispatch said that he was in a wheelchair, possibly intoxicated, and shooting a gun.


Law enforcement from Jasper County and Kirbyville PD arrived on the scene on FM 82 just before 7 pm, and shortly after that, the shooting occurred.


Officers called for an ambulance, however it is currently unknown whether or not another person was also shot.


The man was pronounced dead at the scene.


ETB has the deceased man's name, but will not be releasing that information until after the family is notified.
