Update on Woodville Officer Troy Costello's condition

As reported earlier this week, Woodville Police Officer Troy Costello was shot in the line of duty. His wife Dalynda shared information on his progress in the hospital and has granted family friend Alicia Boerner permission for us to share it with our readers. The couple has two small children, Cayden and Cora.

The following are Dalynda's updates from today beginning with his surgery this morning;

"Troy has started surgery this morning to place a temporary tracheostomy tube. Plastics will then operate to place plates and screws to correct the mandibular fractures. At some point, a swallow study with the ENT will need to be done to see if he can stand a "non-chewing" diet. Dentistry work will need to be done down the road."

The following is an update from later today;

"Update on Troy: Surgery went really well today. The plastic surgeon said he couldn’t hope for better. He is already off the vent and breathing on his own through the trach tube. He is still asleep and most likely will be sleeping all night, after having surgery today. He looks good! The surgeons did a very good job, and I know he is under the best care. I can’t wait to be able to have real communication with him tomorrow finally."

Dalynda closed with the following statement, "Thank you all again for your thoughts and prayers. I don’t think anyone knows how much I truly appreciate it. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart! I can’t wait to be able to tell Troy how much he is loved by this wonderful community. You all have helped to make this difficult road a little easier for this family. We love you!"
