Update on this mornings school bus accident in Buna

Buna, TX During the morning school bus run Wednesday, a Buna ISD bus was in an accident with a Jasper County dump truck on Cr 791, near Cr 786.

The Department of Public Safety Media Sergeant Shana Clark said, "The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 6:40 a.m., a 1993 International truck was parked in the roadway, unoccupied and facing east, while a Buna ISD school bus was also traveling east and directed by road maintenance workers to go around the left side of the parked truck. It is reported that there was not sufficient clearance for the school bus to go around the parked truck and when the driver attempted to make the turn onto C.R. 786, it struck the parked truck."

The driver of the bus is identified as 63-year-old Michael Williams of Buna. There were also three children on board at the time of the accident. There were no injuries.
