Update-Auto Accident South of Kirbyville

JASPER COUNTY – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated a crash involving a commercial motor vehicle on U.S. Highway 96, just north of County Road 594, that occurred today, September 19, 2023.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 4 a.m., a 2008 Freightliner truck tractor was traveling south, followed by a 2010 Toyota Corolla. It is reported that the driver of the Toyota failed to control his speed and struck the rear of the truck tractor. The Toyota then traveled into the west ditch where is struck a fence and a house.

The driver of the Freightliner, identified as 56-year-old Richard Dailey of San Augustine, was not injured.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as 21-year-old Hyrum Ratcliff of Jasper, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
