Updated: Two vehicle accident near Mt. Zion

Updated: At around 6:57 Tuesday evening, the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department, Department of Public Safety and EMS were toned out to Hwy 96 and FM 1005 near Mt. Zion Community for a major 2 vehicle accident.


One vehicle rolled over and at the time of the tone, one vehicle was still in Hwy 96.


One person was transported to local hospital for Injuries. Severity of injuries is unknown per information obtained from the scene from Jasper County Sheriffs Office, who also assisted with the accident.


One lane was closed down while first responders worked the wreck. And as of 8:15pm, all lanes were reopened.

 

DPS Media Sargeant Shana Clark said, "A 1999 Dodge pickup was traveling north, followed by a 2019 Kia Rio. It is reported that the driver of the Kia was fatigued and struck the rear of the Dodge, then traveled off the road to the right where it overturned."

 

The driver of the Dodge, identified as 34-year-old Summer Sooley of Jasper, and a 7-year-old child passenger were not injured.

 

The driver of the Kia, identified as 30-year-old Dallas Kirkland of Hemphill, was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
