Around 5:15 PM, emergency responders from Lake Rayburn Volunteer Fire Department, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and EMS were dispatched to a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of 255 West (Sam Rayburn Parkway) and US 96 South.
DPS Media Sergeant Shana Clark said, "A 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling south on U.S. Highway 96, while a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, towing a bass boat, was traveling north on R.E. Highway 255. It is reported that the driver of the Chevrolet failed to yield to the Jeep and pulled into its path, where the Jeep struck the Chevrolet and the bass boat. After impact, the bass boat was thrown from its trailer and wedged itself underneath a pontoon boat which was being towed by a 2019 Ford F-150 on R.E. Highway 255 facing north and about to turn south onto U.S. Highway 96."
Clark added, "The driver of the Jeep, identified as 39-year-old Leslie Adams of Ragley, La., was not injured. The driver of the Chevrolet and one juvenile, a 16-year-old passenger were not injured. The driver is identified as 17-year-old Hayden Drumm of Buna. The driver of the Ford, one adult passenger and two juvenile passengers, a 15-year-old and a 12-year-old, were not injured. The driver is identified as 46-year-old Marrain Temples of Lumberton."
Hatch’s Towing responded and removed a boat trailer that had detached from the Chevrolet truck, an Astro Bass Boat that the trailer had been carrying, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Chevrolet truck sustained damage that made it unsafe for road travel but was able to be relocated to a nearby parking area.
