On Saturday March 22, 2025 at approximately 11:30 am, The Tyler County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a female caller later identified as Morgan. Morgan was heard screaming she was in the water.
Tyler County Dispatcher Kaela Hassig attempted to communicate with Morgan but it was apparent that Kaela could hear Morgan's screams for help but Morgan could not hear Kaela. Kaela was able to determine with the 911 mapping system that Morgan appeared to be located on a private road just off FM 256 East of Colmesneil.
Tyler County Deputies, Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers, Texas Game Wardens, Constable Tony Reynolds, and the Colmesneil Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the area.
As the 911 call continued, Morgan continued to scream for help as Kaela attempted to reassure her that help was on the way. Emergency personnel were able to locate the private road and as they made their way to the location, Kaela could hear the sirens of emergency vehicles and the continued screams for help through Morgans phone. Kaela was able to relay to the responding officers they were getting closer due to the sound of sirens.
Emergency personnel arrived on scene and observed what appeared to be an oil pad retention pond. From the top of the dam, they were able to locate Morgan in chest deep water holding on to two dogs. Emergency personnel observed Morgan and the dogs were unable to exit the water due to a slick plastic liner inside the retention pond.
Game Warden Robert Mann entered the water to secure Morgan and the two dogs. Deputy Monte Chastain and Trooper Tanner Shepherd were able to pull Morgan and the dogs to safety using a heavy-duty tow-strap.
Once out of the water, Morgan told deputies she was out walking her dogs as she normally does, and the dogs jumped into the retention pond and were unable to exit due to the slick liner. Morgan laid her phone and keys on the water's edge and attempted to retrieve the dogs. She slipped into the water and was unable to get out due to the slippery lining. Morgan yelled for "Siri" to call 911, luckily her phone called 911, but with the distance involved she was unable to know if the Kaela could hear her.
It was estimated that Morgan was in the extremely cold water for approximately 40 minutes and the air temperature had been 35 degrees just a few hours prior. Ems transported Morgan to the Tyler County Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
