Sheriff Chuck Havard addresses Kirbyville High School student body regarding school safety and had a great Q-A session

Highschool students are at an age when they are about to go into the world and spread their wings. Many are looking to future possible career goals. They are learning new things, and unfortunately, some of those things are not so good.
Today, Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard spoke to Kirbyville High School students about school safety, about the importance of reporting anything suspicious, the operations of the sheriffs office and jail operations. He also did a Q and A. Havard said that they really have some great questions.
Havard said, "I would like to thank Kirbyville ISD Superintendent, Mr. Stephen Edwards, and KHS Principal, Mrs. Leslie Williams, for allowing me to address the entire high school student body this morning at the High School Auditorium. I spoke to them about the law-enforcement profession, the operations of the Sheriff’s Office and other topics regarding school safety. The message I tried to drive home was to immediately report suspicious activity, threats and any other information they hear that could compromise school and public safety."
So many times when tragedy strikes, police later discover that there are some who knew something seemed off, they simply didn't report it. Sometimes it's because the witness is scared, or they didn't realize the importance of reporting it. Hopefully, the information received today will give students the courage to speak up before something goes wrong.
Havard closed in saying, "The students asked some very interesting questions and I appreciate their engagement. Thank you to the KHS staff and the students for putting this together. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office will do anything it takes to keep our students and our community safe."
