Sheila Rita (Harmon) Purkey of Jasper age 75

A Celebration of Shelia Rita (Harmon) Purkey’s Life, age 75, of Jasper, Texas, will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper, Texas with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper.  Visitation will be from Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., and all day Friday, February 23, 2024 until 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Sheila passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at her home in Jasper, Texas surrounded by her loving family.  

A native of Port Arthur, Texas, and former student of Kirbyville Schools, Shelia has been a longtime resident of Jasper and was married to Dan Purkey for over 59 years.  She enjoyed square dancing, playing the accordion, guitar, harmonica and steel guitar and she loved to sing.  She never put herself before her family.  

Shelia is survived by her husband of over 59 years, Dan Purkey of Jasper, Texas; son, Daniel Purkey of Sulphur, LA; daughters, Trinda Purkey of Kalamazoo, MI, Cynthia Purkey of Jasper, Texas and Paula Purkey of Jasper, Texas; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Rita Mae Harmon; five sisters and two brothers.  

Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper.
