Secondary accident occurred just 15 minutes after the initial one, this time resulting in injuries

Part two:

On April 2nd at 3:15, Jasper County officials were assisting in an accident on U.S. Highway 96, at County Road 907 when just 15 minutes later a secondary accident occurred at the exact location of the first one.


Jasper County Information Officer Karli Cherry said, "There was a primary collision we were assisting DPS with and then a secondary collision occurred at the same location. Hwy 96 N. of Cougar Country."

 

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 3:30 p.m., a 2017 GMC 1500 traveling northbound slowed abruptly to avoid striking a non-contact vehicle ahead.  This vehicle was in the earlier accident zone where vehicles were still awaiting assistance. It was is reported that the driver of a 2020 Ford F-150 failed to control their speed and struck the GMC from the rear distributed area.

 

The driver of the Ford, identified as 57-year-old Melody Barron of Kirbyville, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  The two passengers, 21-year-old Savannah Barron and 21-year-old Sierra Barron both out of Kirbyville, were also transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

 

The driver of the GMC, identified as 60-year-old James Morgan of Springhill, Louisiana, was not injured.
