Press release regarding last night's officer involved shooting in Kirbyville

The following is a press release in its entirety regarding the officer involved shooting that occurred last night in Kirbyville:


The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Texas Ranger Division, are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred at a private residence off Farm-to-Market Road 82, which occurred Saturday, December 28, 2024.

The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 6:08 p.m., the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to a domestic disturbance involving a suspect with gun. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Kirbyville Police Department, and a Texas State Trooper responded and observed the suspect and a 14-year-old juvenile in a physical altercation with a gun outside of the residence. Officers gave orders to disengage and to drop the weapon, and once the juvenile disengaged, the suspect pointed the weapon at the officers and the officers shot the suspect.

The suspect was pronounced deceased on scene by a Justice of the Peace, their information is not immediately available.

Following the shooting, as standard procedure, the involved State Trooper was placed on administrative leave. For information relating to other officers involved, please reach out to their respective agencies.

This is an active and ongoing investigation, and no further information is available.
