Polk County Sheriff's Department quietens concerns regarding suspected murderer Don Steven McDougal

Concerns have recently been raised regarding Don Steven McDougal, accused murderer of 11-year-old Audrii Cunningham. A social media post claimed that McDougal was on the run, and attacking citizens. Polk County Sheriff Byron Lyons has issued a press release to ease public fears.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has become aware of a circulating post claiming that Don Steven McDougal is on the run and attacking residents. The post further advises citizens to be alert and vigilant in searching for Mr. McDougal.
Sheriff Lyons would like to reassure the public that Don Steven McDougal remains in the custody of the Polk County Sheriff's Office Jail Division. Any posts or claims suggesting otherwise are false and should be disregarded. There is no threat to public safety, and these claims have no basis in fact.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office will always inform our residents of any legitimate threats or safety concerns.
