Jasper Mayor Anderson Land
Jasper Mayor Anderson Land

I am Anderson Land Jr., current Mayor and a native of Jasper, Texas. I graduated from Jasper High School in 1972 and began a career in the US Navy, serving in Vietnam. As a veteran, I have worked diligently to enhance my skills through education, networking, and engaging with others in municipal government at TML conferences. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, I am a Licensed Realtor, a member of the Jasper Lions Club, and I have a keen sense of duty and dedication to our community. I have served two terms as District 1 Councilman, where I worked tirelessly to ensure that the needs of all our citizens were heard and addressed. I am deeply committed to the future of Jasper, Texas.

My record as a City Council member shows that I am a leader who stands for the people and the City of Jasper. As your Mayor, I will continue my duties as the ceremonial head of the city in representing the City of Jasper, and as the Mayor, along with the City Council, help legislate and set policy for the City of Jasper. I will continue to support JEDCO in securing businesses that will bring in jobs. Work with housing investors and builders to bring affordable housing to the city and support a vigorous downtown revitalization program. If re-elected, I will continue being a leader who understands and values our diverse culture. As a responsible steward to our citizens and our environment, parks, and business community, I will continue to work tirelessly to foster growth, preserve our community’s unique historic charm, and support economic development that benefits all.

As a member of the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission (SETRPC), I will continue to work with the Area Agency on Aging (AAA), to work with the Jasper County Center on Aging (JCCOA) so Jasper’s senior citizens can benefit from the various programs offering assistance with healthcare, finances, food, and transportation that it qualifies for. Additionally, resources like the Area Agency on Aging can help with nutrition, in-home assistance, care coordination, and transportation. I visit our senior center weekly, and another goal I have is to help JCCOA in securing another facility. This is so the citizens of Jasper will be clear what the roll of the Mayor is, the Mayor presides over the City Council meetings, the Mayor's main duties also are to promote public involvement in the council's activities, attend such civic and ceremonial functions as the head of a municipal government he or she determines what is appropriate in representing the city, and the signing of legal documents. The Mayor also has emergency management authority, including the authority to close public facilities in order to ensure peace and good order in the city during a riot or unlawful assembly. Texas state law, specifically Section 418.1015 of the Texas Government Code, designates the Mayor as the Director of Emergency Management for a city. The Mayor serves as the governor’s designated agent in administering and supervising disaster management duties in the city.

Jasper is a wonderful place to live, and I believe in standing for the people. I am a leader who listens, cares, and knows how to move our city forward while working with JEDCO and the Jasper Lake Sam Rayburn Chamber of Commerce while respecting the history and traditions that make Jasper unique.

"Forward with Leadership, Progress, and Unity! “Re-Elect Anderson Land – A Mayor Who Stands for People and Progress!"
