In a press release, the Texas Department of Public Safety Information Officer Shana Clark said, "Deputies arrested a Jasper woman following a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 96, north of Jasper, near Miller’s Grocery, that occurred Thursday, April 4."
Clark continued, "The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 7 p.m., Jasper County Sheriff’s Office dispatch put out an alert of a reckless driver operating an 18-wheeler. A Trooper observed the 18-wheeler and conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver. While speaking with the driver, the Trooper observed a small bag of suspected methamphetamines that the driver attempted to conceal. When the Trooper attempted to seize the suspected drugs, the suspect refused and began to actively resist arrest and threw the drugs into the roadway. The driver was eventually taken into custody and the suspected drugs were seized."
The suspect, identified as 62-year-old Gloria Clark of Jasper, was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Sherriff’s Office for the following offenses: possession of a controlled substance, less than a gram, tampering with evidence, both felony offenses, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor offense.
As the scene was being cleared, Hatches was called out to tow the log truck.
