Outstanding photos of the famous, once-in-a-lifetime comet as seen over Kirbyville!
Social media may be overflowing with mediocre photos of the Tsuchinshan-TTLAS (C/2023 A3) Comet, but 23-year-old Seth Durham of Kirbyville was able to capture some amazing, professional-looking shots last night that we just had to share!
Seth's mom, Debbie Durham also of Kirbyville submitted the images and commentary for her son. "The 1st pic is of the City Cemetery. The moon being nearly full last night, lit it up and the comet was clearly visible to the naked eye. These photos were taken with an IPhone camera. The 2nd photo was taken on North Lelia behind the Methodist Church in the open field. And the 3rd photo is of Main Street downtown facing toward the West. Because of city lights, the comet was not as bright, but zoomed in, you can it."
This final photo is a selfie with the comet streaming overhead, that Debbie took two nights ago in Galveston.
The comet will be seen in our area until Friday evening. It appears every 80,000 years. To see the Comet, visibility is best about an hour after sunset when the sky is darkened. It will appear to the West, and to the right side of Venus. Tonight (Thursday) it should be higher than Venus.
