A wildfire burning out of containment near Highway 190 West, between FM 777 and County Road 138, continues to threaten rural land this evening. The Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department (BGVFD), initially responding to this fire earlier today, was dispatched again at approximately 5:15 PM as the blaze spread beyond containment lines, prompting a request for assistance from the Texas A&M Forest Service.

This incident marks the third call of the day for BGVFD, highlighting the challenging conditions faced by local firefighters amid dry and windy weather.

“It’s the same fire we were at earlier,” said Beech Grove Fire Chief James Gunter. “It got outside of containment lines, and we’ve called for help from the Texas Forest Service.”

Earlier in the day, BGVFD responded to:

  • 3:06 PM – A woods fire on County Road 108 North, assisting Angelina River Fire & Rescue

  • 3:07 PM – A grass and woods fire on FM 2799 near the City of Jasper, assisting Jasper Volunteer Fire Department

There has been a steady stream of dispatches involving multiple volunteer fire departments responding to brush, grass, and woods fires — a strong reminder of the dangers that persist even in the absence of an official burn ban.

Though Jasper County is not currently under a burn ban, fire officials stress the importance of exercising extreme caution with outdoor burning. Residents are urged to avoid any unnecessary burning and to closely monitor updates from their local fire departments.
