One vehicle rollover claimed the life of a Jasper man

At 4:35 PM Sunday evening, East End Volunteer Fire Department, Jasper County Sheriff's Department, Department of Public Safety, and Xxon Towing were called to an area of FM 1408 just south of HWY 63 E for a single-vehicle rollover accident.

Upon arrival crews went to work to get the patient out of the vehicle.

DPS Media Sergeant Shana Clark said, "A 2014 Ram 1500 pickup was traveling north on FM 1408 when the pickup traveled off the road to the right into the east ditch, where the driver overcorrected this maneuver. This then caused the pickup to overturn and side skid across the highway into the west ditch."

The driver, identified as 71-year-old C.J. Collins of Jasper, was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased by medical staff.
