Obituary of Thomas Michael Jones, Sr. August 8, 1940 - January 30, 2025

Mike Jones passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at UTMB in Clear Lake, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.


Mike was born in Beaumont, Texas, but grew up in Jasper, and was a longtime Houston resident. He met the love of his life, Betty Lou Rose, at fourteen years old. They married on August 19, 1961. Mike graduated from Jasper High School and then later graduated from Stephen F. Austin with an Industrial Engineering degree. He spent forty years in the chemical industry traveling the world. He retired from Occidental Chemical Corporation as a Safety Director.


Mike was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was of the Baptist faith and attended the Sagemont Church of Houston. Mike was a very talented artist and was selected to display his artwork at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. He loved word working, working on the farm, fishing and duck hunting, but what he really loved the most was spending time with his grandchildren.


Mike is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Betty Lou Rose Jones; one son, Thomas (Tim) Michael Jones, Jr. of Houston, Texas and one daughter, Judy Jones Martinez and husband Scott, also of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Colton Martinez and Kate Martinez.


Mike was preceded in death by his parents, William Orby Jones and Anna Beula Evetts Jones, and two brothers, Ted Jones and Jimmy Jones.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2909 W. Holcombe, Houston, Texas 77025.


A private graveside service will be held at a later date.


Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper.
