Obituary of Marvin Johnston April 4, 1951 - November 7, 2024 US Veteran
Marvin Johnston, 73, of Colmesneil, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024 at his residence.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 12:00 - 1:00 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville.
Funeral services will follow the visitation at 1:00 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with Brother C. W. Lawrence officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Martinez, Justin Repp, Nathan Payne, Oscar Mejia, Cadyn Green, and Taylor Johnston.
Marvin was born April 4, 1951 to John and Fidela Johnston in Guam. A former resident of Houston and Missouri, he had lived near Colmesneil for 21 years. After serving in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, he worked in the construction industry, retiring in 2011 as a superintendent with Bomac Construction in Beaumont, Texas. He enjoyed watching westerns and football. He also loved playing with his grandchildren. If you said, “I love you”, Marvin often said, “Well you ought to.” He also said that he was the prettiest PawPaw. Marvin was a Mason and Past Master of East Houston Lodge #1299 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of Wiley Mae Community Baptist Church in Silsbee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Johnston; parents, John and Fidela Johnston; brother, Ronald Johnston; and sister, Elizabeth Whitehouse.
He is survived by his daughters, Christie Aguirre and husband, Anthony of Houston, Texas; Misti Johnston and husband, Oscar Mejia of Houston, Texas; Tonya Baker and husband, Gary of Elkhart, Texas; son, Rodney Johnston and wife, Hailly of Houston, Texas; stepdaughter, Jeanie Sullivan and husband, Ed of Colmesneil; stepson, Justin “BopBop” Sowell; stepson, James “Jamie” Sowell and wife, Elizabeth; stepson, Jared Sowell; and numerous Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas.
