Ann was born June 9, 1936 to William Gordon Taylor and Willie Beulah Herring Taylor in Woodville, Texas.

Born in 1936 in a humble log cabin in Tyler County, Texas, Ann embodied the values of hard work, resilience, and love throughout her remarkable life.

She married her high school sweetheart shortly after graduating and together they built a family filled with love and laughter. She was the devoted mother of three children: Cindy, Lisa, and David. Her care extended beyond her immediate family, as she also opened her heart and home to some of her sister's children. She was always Aunt Ann to the nieces and nephews she loved so well: Tamera Treadwell (Daniel Owen), Terri Treadwell, Tillman Johnson (Beverly), Pamela Siegfried, Bela Nagypal (Kim), James Hays (Sherry), and Robert McMillan.

She later married James J. Sterling, Jr. They were married for 35 years. She faithfully cared for him in sickness during his last years of life.

Ann’s home was a haven for family and friends alike. The house on the corner in Woodville was a lively gathering place, often filled with the sounds of young people playing games and sharing meals. Her warmth and hospitality left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed her threshold.

While raising her family, Ann worked full-time at Tyler County Hospital and still found the determination to earn her college degree. Her dedication paid off as she advanced to become the Medical Records Director at the hospital, a position she held with distinction for over 40 years. Even after her official retirement, Ann’s work ethic remained unwavering as she continued doing transcription work for local doctors in the evenings, a side job she had maintained for much of her career.

Ann’s life was a testament to love, perseverance, and selflessness. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, a strong work ethic, and a deep commitment to family and community. Her memory will be cherished by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends who were fortunate to know her.

At the time of her death, she was a member of the Kerrville First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Gordon Taylor and Willie Taylor Pate; husband of 35 years, James “Jim” Sterling; sisters, Virginia Nagypal and Jewell Treadwell, and one grandson, Cody Vaughn.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Vaughn and husband Hugh of Kerrville, TX, Lisa Best and husband Lee of Colorado Springs, CO; son, David Ashworth of Hockley, TX; sister, Nita Selman of Woodville, TX; grandchildren, Jami Castillo (Orlando), Laura Cherry (Craig), Wendi Stampley (Scott), Carson Vaughn, Leea McCollum (Brandon), Matthew Shuey, Nicholas Best, Jessica Baldwin (Will), Keri Baxter (Scott), Jordan Ashworth, Tristan Ashworth and Bret Ashworth; great grandchildren, Pablo, Ginny, Liam, Emily, Skylar, Maylin, Kanton, Cayden, Madison, Riley, Johna, Josephine, Athena, Aria, Giuliana, Gabrielle, Hannah, Calina, Brooks, Billie, Hadley and Olivia; great-great grandchildren, Hudson, Kaden, Kody and Tate, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
