Joan Madelyn Wilson, 81, of Newton, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025 at her residence.
Joan was born June 5, 1943 to Buford B. and Lanelle Williamson Young in Purvis, Mississippi. She was a longtime resident of Tyler County, before moving to Newton. Joan graduated from Texas City High School and was a retired nurse. She was a member of the Sassy Scrappers Quilting Bee. She enjoyed quilting, collecting cookbooks, thrift stores and garage sales, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Wilson; parents, Buford B. and Lanelle Young; brother, Jerry Young; and sisters, Linda Kimbrough and Judy Bishop.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Kristyn “Kristy” Reynolds and husband, Jim of Newton; son, Darby Scott Wilson of Woodville; sister, Joyce Nugent of Woodville; grandchildren, Sandi Gillis of Vidalia, GA, Johnny Gillis and wife, Amy of Hazlehurst, GA, Sarah Gillis and husband, Cory Holt of Mt. Vernon, GA, and Jade Wilson of Bay City; 14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation services were under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
