Obituary of Jerry R. Downing February 4, 1950 - December 10, 2024

Jerry R. Downing, 74, of Woodville, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Dogwood Trails Manor Nursing Home in Woodville, Texas.

A gathering of family and friends with be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. service time on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Bethany Baptist Church with burial to follow in Bethany Cemetery in Colmesneil.

Jerry was born February 4, 1950 to George Silvey and Floy Sturrock Downing in Woodville, Texas. He was a native of Colmesneil, Texas and had lived the past 9 years in DeRidder, Louisiana. Jerry was a 1968 graduate and valedictorian of Colmesneil High School. He went on to receive a degree in accounting from Lamar University. Jerry enjoyed watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed collecting baseball and football cards, as well as planting trees and gardening. Jerry excelled in number sense at UIL competition while in high school, and he had a sharp intellect regarding history.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Floy Downing; sister, Glenda Jordan; and brother, Robert Downing.

He is survived by his brother, James (Jimmy) Downing and wife Ann of Simpsonville, South Carolina; brother-in-law, John Jordan of Spurger; numerous nieces and nephews; and other family members and friends.
