Obituary of Jerry Clyde Grissom August 14, 1947 - January 11, 2025

Jerry Clyde Grissom passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 11, 2025, in Georgetown, Texas, at the age of 77.

Jerry was born on August 14, 1947, in Silsbee, Texas. He was the son of Alene and Clyde Grissom, and the brother of Larry Grissom. Jerry grew up in the Magnolia Springs area and attended Kirbyville schools, graduating in 1965. Shortly after graduation, Jerry began working for Jasper-Newton Electric Cooperative where he worked as a member of the right-of-way crew, a lineman, a crew foreman, and then retired as director of maintenance after 41 years of employment. Jerry helped to train new linemen, and his strong work ethic remained with him throughout his life.

Jerry married the love of his life, Tommie Laverne Dawson, on February 18, 1972, and spent almost 53 wonderful years together. Jerry cleared the land and helped build their first home near Kirbyville. He was a deeply devoted father and grandfather and enjoyed attending school events, recitals, performances, and football games. He loved children and became an adopted grandfather to many.

Jerry and Laverne moved to Jasper shortly after their retirement. Jerry had a passion for outdoor life, whether he was fishing, hunting, working with power tools, or mowing the lawn on his John Deere riding lawn mower. He was a member of the Lakes Area Rose Society where he was known for cultivating beautiful roses. Jerry enjoyed road trips and cruising, with Alaska being his favorite destination. He also loved all the national parks and especially the Mariposa Grove of the giant Sequoias in Yosemite.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Laverne Grissom, his daughter, Dana Burton, son-in-law, Aaron Burton, his grandchildren, Blake and Haley Burton, his brother, Larry Grissom, and sister-in-law, Lisa Grissom. He is preceded in death by his son, Brett Grissom, parents, Alene and Clyde Grissom, sister-in-law, Annalee Knight, and brother-in-law, Carey Weeks.

Funeral service will be 2:30 pm Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Adams EE Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Magnolia Springs Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 pm prior to service.
