Herbert Gene “H.G.” Byley
A Celebration of Herbert Gene “H.G” Byley”s Life, age 90, of Bronson, Texas, will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Byley Cemetery in Bronson, Texas. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Stringer and Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper, Texas.
Herbert “H.G.” was born on November 22, 1934 to Herbert Elton and Frankie Birdwell Byley of San Augustine, Texas, and he passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at his residence surrounded by loving family.
He married the love of his life, Paula Adkins Byley on May 31, 1958 in Jasper, Texas. They raised a family of four sons and one daughter.
He enjoyed spoiling his family, hunting, fishing and gardening. He began his first pipeline job in 1953 as an x-ray tech and then a welder. He worked in the Louisiana Flats, numerous southern states, the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska. In 1975 he laid 800 miles of 45-inch pipe from Fairbanks to Peudo Bay, Alaska. He worked one of the most dangerous jobs offshore in Kenya, Alaska in treacherous waters. In 1976 he worked tie-end pipe on VSM and in 1977 was a Duck Braintley Welder Foreman in 20-30 below zero weather.
Herbert decided to come home in 1977 because his children were growing up and needed his guidance. He started the Black Gold Asphalt business which he did very well in. Two years later he started an oil field business and later operated rock pit mines. “The black smoke from the big diesel engines were rolling in East Texas for H.G. Byley & Sons.”
Herbert is survived by his two sons, Gary Byley of Bronson, Texas, and Harold “Dinky” Byley and wife Shirley of San Augustine, Texas; his daughter, Leisa Byley of Pineland, Texas; daughter-in-law Candy Byley of Hemphill; sister, Barbara Wright and husband Leo of Bronson, Texas; brother, Robert Byley, Sr. and wife Betty of Bronson, Texas; six grandchildren, Brandi Byley, Shuan Butler and wife Misti, Crystal Duffey and husband Jody, Aryan Haire and husband Charley, Destini Brazille and husband Brandon, Salena Snodgrass and husband James; seventeen great grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends to cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Elton and Frankie Byley; wife, Paula Byley; two sons, Ritchie Byley, Todd Byley; his grandson Clay Byley; and brother, Benny Byley, Sr.
