Obituary of Fred "Papa" Hamman February 7, 1931 - December 24, 2024

A Celebration of Fred Mathis Hamman, Jr.’s Life, age 93, of Jasper, Texas, will be 2:0.0 p.m., Sunday, December 29, 2024 at Stringer and Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper, Texas with burial to follow at West Oaks Cemetery in Jasper, Texas. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the start of service.


Fred Mathis Hamman Jr., 93, of Jasper, TX passed away peacefully at home on December 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and his partner June Bug “Chewy”.


He was born on February 7, 1931, in Mineola, TX to Fred and Sybil Hamman. He was married to Ada Jane Hamman for 60 years prior to her passing on October 4, 2006.


He served in the United States Merchant Marines prior to beginning his career with Houston Natural Gas on August 19, 1947. He later retired from Entex on November 1, 1993, after 46 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his yard and garden, spending time with family and friends, and he was rarely without a faithful four-legged companion by his side.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ada Jane Hamman, son Robert E. Hamman, parents Sybil and Fred Hamman Sr., sisters Barbara J. Hamman Bishop and Betty J. Hamman Chess, granddaughter Brittani D. Douty.


Fred is survived by his Daughter and son-in-law: Gina and Chuck Hall of Kingwood, TX; Daughter and late son-in-law: Tyba and Ron “Doc” Dockler of Platte City, MO; Brother: Robert Hamman of San Antonio, TX; ten Grandchildren, Robbie “Big Duke” Hamman and his wife Dana, Patrisha L. Hamman, Latisha Bradshaw and her husband Jeremy, Wendy Lewis and her husband Steven, Kristi Hencke and her husband Ryan, George “G.J.” Douty II and his wife Angie, Julie Meadors and her husband Justin, Richard Dockler and his wife Kelsey, Sarah Dockler Bargess and Michael Dockler; twenty-six Great-grandchildren,Triston Hamman, Garrett Lee, Bridgett Trevino and Savanah, Jaden, Alston, and Daniel Bradshaw, Annika Bishop, Mandy Lewis Welch and Katie Lewis Davis, Kayla, Kolten, and Karli Hencke, Gia Douty, Riley and Harrison Huron and Jaycie, Jessa, and Jay Meadors, Bentley, Easton, Kinsley, Kyla, and Katelin Dockler, and Derik Dockler and Michael Barges and twelve Great-great-grandchildren, Hayley Hamman, Autumn, Asher, and Ashtynn Lee, Lillianna and Liala Trevino, Cutter, Cohhen, Corbin, and Cooper Bradshaw, Izzy Simpkins and Mila Davis


The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Doyle and Julie Dickerson, affectionately known as "Doolie and Fennis Earl” and Michael Dickerson “Lima Bean” for their love and support for Papa over the years. They began as neighbors, but quickly became cherished members of our family. Their unwavering support was instrumental in Papa being able to live independently at home until the age of 93.


Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper.
