Obituary of Elliot Eugene Bourne 22 Jul 1936 - 22 Jan 2025
Elliot Eugene Bourne arrived in the world on July 25, 1936 to Darrell Frayne Bourne and Mary Jane Winter Bourne in Everette, Monongalia, West Virginia. Gene, as he was known to his family and friends, was the second child of four. He was a scrappy little boy who loved the outdoors. Growing up, he was especially close to his sister, Elly, with whom he maintained a warm relationship throughout his life.
When he came of age, he entered the United States Army and served during the Korean War. In his early career, he briefly worked in the coal mines and sold insurance as a traveling salesman. Later, he transitioned to construction, working for B & K Construction in Domino, Texas, building bridge and highway infrastructure. During this time, he traveled extensively throughout the contiguous forty-eight states.
In 1964 Elliot met his first wife, Lois Carlisle, in Houston, Texas. This union produced a daughter, Anna Marie. Later, another marriage to Doris Burns produced a son, David Allen.
In his younger days Elliot enjoyed sky diving-- a throwback to his army days. He eventually became an avid cyclist and once moved from Colorado to Texas with nothing but his bicycle and what he could carry on it.
Even though he travelled extensively, he spent a large portion of time in Texas. He settled in DeKalb, Texas during his retirement years and became a member of the Baptist church there.
Elliot passed away on January 22, 2025 in Kountze, Hardin, Texas at the age of 88. He was pre-deceased by his parents, his brother, John Bourne, and his son, David (Widmyer). He is survived by his daughter, Anna M. Bourne Cooper (Richard); sister, Eloise Starn; brother, Darrell F. Bourne, Jr.; four grandchildren, Chance R. Cooper (Kaitlyn), William O. Cooper (Marcy), Tabatha M. Cooper, Taylor C. Feely (Austin); six great-grandchildren, Reiss K. Cooper, Kassius J. Harrington, Remi G. Cooper, Axel E. Feely, Ozzy B. Feely, and Mabel A. Cooper.
