Obituary of Edward Byerly January 24, 1932 - December 22, 2024

Celebration of Edward Byerly’s Life, age 92, of Jasper, Texas, will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper, Texas with burial to follow at Homer Cemetery in Jasper, Texas. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the time of service at the Funeral Home. Edward passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at Rayburn Health Care in Jasper, Texas.


A native and lifelong resident of Jasper, Texas, and a former Jasper Evening Lions Club member for over 25 years. He worked as a bookkeeper for Wiergate Lumber for over forty years and First National Bank of Jasper for over seventeen years. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, and landscaping, and he loved oil painting.


Edward was a man of character, integrity, and generosity. He was deeply rooted in the Jasper community, where he was known for his gentle demeanor and readiness to lend a helping hand. A true gentleman in every sense, Edward’s kindness and compassion left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.


Edward’s life centered on love and family. He treasured time with his loved ones and the memories they shared. His wisdom and humor will be missed, but his spirit will live on in those who knew him. We honor James Edward Byerly’s life and remember him as a man deeply loved. May he rest in peace, with his legacy of love and kindness enduring in our hearts.


Edward is survived by his daughter, Mary Gayle Kennedy and her husband Randall Kennedy of Chattanooga, Tennessee; He was a father to Dustin Thomas Woods and his wife Amy of Dallas, Texas; his step-brother, Rubin Brown of Washington; his sisters, Adrian Harrison and Priscilla Garcia of San Augustine, Texas; his grandchildren, Matthew Kennedy, Erin Mount and her husband Billy Mount, Dylan Woods, Tyler Woods, and Payton Woods; and his great-granddaughter, Tenley Kay Mount.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Zay Adrian and Dessie Byerly; his brother, Charles Wesley Byerly; and his sister, Billie Vernell Phillips.


Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper.
