Charles A. Mercer, 89, of Timpson, passed away Friday, November 1, 2024 at his residence.


Visitation will be held Friday, November 8, 2024 from 6-7 p.m. at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville.


Funeral services will be Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Pedigo Cemetery near Woodville. Officiating will be his son, Brother Mike Mercer. Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Farmer, Kyle Mercer, Jarvis Davis, Joshua Mercer, Robert Armagost and Robert Poe.


Charles was born July 15, 1935 to George and Nancy Connor Mercer in Dallas, Texas. A native of Shreveport, La, he was a former resident of Houston, Tx, Mandeville, Jamacia, and Miami, Fl. Charles was a former longtime resident of Tyler County, and had lived the past 20 years in Timpson, Tx. He was a member of the Holly Springs Baptist Church in Garrison, Tx. Charles graduated from high school in Shreveport and went on to attend Sewanee Military Academy in Tennessee, and Texas A&M University. He worked for many years in the oil exploration industry, retiring as a purchasing agent. After his retirement, he owned and operated Mercer Carpet Care in Woodville, and after moving to Timpson, he worked with Lowe’s in Nacogdoches for 15 years. Known as “Tuffy”, Charles had an adventuresome life. Over the course of his life, he enjoyed auto racing, bull riding, scuba diving, hunting and fishing, even making his own lures. Charles was just one flight from receiving his pilot’s license.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, JoAnn Young Mercer; sister, Laura Mercer Elkins; granddaughter, Cassandra Mercer; and parents, George and Nancy Mercer.


He is survived by his sons, Kyle Mercer and wife, Nancy of Houston and Mike Mercer and wife, Linda of Ft. Worth; daughter, Tammy Farmer and husband, Jason of Timpson; grandchildren, Joshua Mercer, Sabrina Parent, Ralph Pender, Jr., Kristen Mercer and Jason Mercer; and great grandchildren, Britteny Mercer, Brandon Day, Lucien Ochoa, Autumn Lockwood, Sydney Day, Micah Day, Kira Pender, Dannika Andrepont, Luna Mercer, Marshall Mercer and Hudson Mercer.
