Press Release: Fatality Accident on a Deer Lease off FM 1416 near CR 4097

September 3, 2023

We are praying for the family and friends of a juvenile who was involved in a fatality ATV

(Four-Wheeler) accident that occurred on Saturday evening.

At 1729 hours, NCSO Dispatch received a report of an accident that occurred on a deer lease located off FM 1416 near CR 4097 in Belgrade. Our investigation on the scene revealed that this was a tragic accident. No name is permitted of the victim because the driver was a juvenile.

Calls To Services (August 28, 2023, to September 3, 2023):  The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) answered 54 calls to service.

Jail Population:   We currently have 21 inmates in the following Jails, 15 housed in Newton, 6 housed in Jasper.

BURN BAN: Citations Shall be issued to anyone found starting a FIRE. This ban includes Fireworks.

The following individual was booked into the County Jail:

Graham, Gary Aug 30, 2023 Poss. CS PG 1/1-B >=1G<4G Bond Amt. $10,000.00

The following calls and reports were received by NCSO:  

Burkeville: Stolen Dog (White Husky w/pink collar-6 months old), Trespassing, Welfare Concern, Fire, Welfare Concern, Singletary Sights: Theft, Bon Wier: Possible Scam, Terroristic Threat, Animal Nuisance (Cow), Civil Matter, Extra Patrol, Possible Fire (unable to locate) Indian Lake: Suspicious Activity (sounds Like flares are going off and the sky is lighting up)

Sandjack: Criminal Mischief/Trespassing

Call: Vehicle ran into a Ditch, Animal Nuisance on CR 3075 (Lose Horse picked up and the owner identified and refused to answer our calls), Possible Fire (Unable to locate), Assault Family Violence, Animal Nuisance – 2 Horse Lose, Motorcycle Accident on FM 1004-Driver left the scene, People Shooting Guns at night, Possible Accident (unable to locate)

Deweyville: Medical Call, Fire (Citation Issued), Suspicious Activity, Property Damage (Fence)

Orange: Theft

Newton (Unincorporated Limits): Animal Nuisance/Abandonment (Horse and Donkey found tied to a tree on a hunting lease off CR 2626 near FM 2626) currently at the County’s Pen unknown owner at this time, Welfare Concern, Domestic Disturbance, Reckless Driving, Theft

Buna: Terroristic Threat

Gist: Fire, Theft

Wiergate: False Alarm, Animal Nuisance (Cows), Reckless Driving

Toledo Bend: Suspicious Activity, Loud Music (Hickory Hill), Follow-up/Case Inquiry

Tall Timbers: Theft
