Newton County suspect shot while fleeing

On August 7, 2024, at 0325 hours, we responded to the 900 Block of CR 4089 in Sandjack regarding a shooting. Upon the Deputies arrival, we made contact with the homeowner who advised that a person that he knows broke into his residence and took his cell phone and $60.00. The victim stated that he shot the intruder, who fled the scene, dropping his property outside the residence.

Deputies went to the possible suspect’s residence on CR 4094 and made contact with the suspect. The suspect had what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the leg and required medical attention. Allegiance was notified and the suspect was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.   

At the time of this press release, the suspect’s current condition has not been released to this Office. The facts and circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation by the NCSO. This incident will be updated when further details become available.
