Calls To Services (October 9, 2023, to October 15, 2023): The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) answered 68 calls to service.
Jail Transports:
Newton County had 9 transports.
1 NCSO to Vernon Parish. 2 NCSO to JCSO. 2 JCSO to NCSO. 1 NCSO to Jefferson County.
Jail Population: We currently have 23 inmates in the following Jails, 16 housed in Newton, 7 housed in Jasper.
THE BURN BAN FOR NEWTON COUNTY IS STILL IN EFFECT:
On October 10, 2023, Deputy Gilley responded to 2373 FM 1415 to assist the BVFD Fire Chief Duckworth. The Fire Chief reported that an individual later identified as Kennethy West had 4 small fires burning. The Suspect, West would not allow the fire department to extinguish the fires. West was uncooperative and was taken into custody. He was arrested for Interfering with W/Public Duties; resisting arrest; and illegal burning.
