Multiple departments called out to fight a house fire on FM 254 today
At 12:02 pm Monday, Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire at 1720 on FM 254.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw that there was heavy fire involvement from the side roof of the two story wood frame residential structure.
Within 15 minutes, East End VFD, Angelina River Fire and Rescue, and Jasper Texas Volunteer Fire Department were also called out to assist in controlling the blaze.
The owner was on site and reported that everyone had been evacuated.
Beech Grove VFD Chief James Gunter said, "Aggressive fire engagement ensued and after approximately 45 minutes the fire was controlled. The fire had traveled throughout the attic resulting in extensive fire damage to the roof structure and second floor".
During the suppression efforts, a Beech Grove VFD volunteer firefighter, Chelsie Roy was injured. She suffered from a leg injury and was transported by Allegiance Mobile Health - Jasper EMS to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released.
Gunter said that his department is very thankful for the assistance/mutual aid from Jasper Texas Volunteer Fire Department, Angelina River Fire And Rescue, and East End Volunteer Fire Department.
Gunter added that the fire appears to have started in a wood burning fireplace chimney.
