Morning accident sends truck driver to JMH for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries

The Department of Public Safety and Lake Rayburn Volunteer Fire Department were called out to a two vehicle accident on Hwy 96 and and RR 255 or Sam Houston Parkway this morning at around 7:30.

DPS Media Sergeant Shana Clark said, "The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 7:30 a.m., a 2014 Freightliner truck was traveling north on U.S. Highway 96. It is reported that a 2023 Mack truck was traveling east on R.R. 255 and failed to yield to the Freightliner and was struck on its passenger side."

The driver of the Freightliner, identified as 51-year-old Derek Bobbitt of Bronson, was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.


The driver of the Mack, identified as 57-year-old Steven Bowen of Chester, was not injured.
