Minor truck fire South of Kirbyville Monday

Shortly before noon Monday, the Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department was called out to Hwy 96 South of town about a mile past Cr 1004 for a truck fire.

The pickup truck which had been towing a trailer caught fire, prompting the driver to pull to the shoulder, stop and then separate the trailer from to the truck in case the fire spread.

The fire was quickly extinguished and Patrick's Wrecker Service removed the vehicle from the roadway.

Kirbyville Fire Chief Greg Ellis said that the cause of the small fire was just mechanical failure.

There were no injuries reported.
