Mattie Boyett Smith 96 of Jasper Obituary

Mattie Boyett Smith, 96, of Jasper passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024 in Jasper, Texas.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Tanglewood Baptist Church in Jasper with interment to follow at Magnolia Springs Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Tanglewood Baptist Church.

Mattie was born on June 27, 1927 in Silsbee, Texas to Monroe and Hortensia Boyett. A resident of Kirbyville, she was a long-time Jasper resident. She owned and operated her own beauty shop for 65 years, "Mattie's Beauty Shop". She was also a loyal member of Tanglewood Baptist Church for over 45 years, where she loved teaching Sunday School. Mattie loved to sew and enjoyed making special outfits for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed many camping trips to Colorado in the summer and playing dominoes with her "Tennessee Gas Brats". 

She is survived by her son Dan Smith & wife LaNell of Jasper; grandchildren Amanda Jordan & husband Donnie of Jasper, Danette Godeaux & husband Tommie of Lumberton, Robbie Herford & husband Clay of Vidor, Jody Slaydon & husband John of Jasper, and Carla Whiteside & husband Shawn of Shelbyville; 18 great grandchildren, 18 great great grandchildren, sister JoAnn Cox of Atlanta, Georgia, and sisters-in-law Marcell Reed and Jane Smith.

She is preceded in death by her husband B.W. Smith, parents Monroe & Hortensia Boyett, brother Charles Boyett, granddaughter Tamara Harper, brothers-in-law Williard Smith, Mann Cox, and Buddy Reed, and sisters-in-law Wanda Boyett and Penny Boyett.
