Man struggled with NC Deputy for evidence, jailed with additional charges

Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby said in a press release, "On October 27, a Newton County Deputy initiated a traffic stop on

County Road 4181 for a vehicle equipment violation. K9 Bruce alerted on the vehicle and the driver was detained and a vehicle search was initiated. During a search of the car, drug paraphernalia was located".

Burby said that the driver attempted to take the evidence from one of the Deputies’ hands and then grabbed his legs and they both went to the ground. A struggle ensued and both Deputies were able to place handcuffs on the suspect successfully. One of the

Deputies sustained injuries and he and the suspect went to St. Elizabeth Hospital to be checked out.

At the hospital, the suspect was cleared for incarceration and is currently in Newton County Jail.

The suspect, 38-year-old Eric Edward Brown of Buna was arraigned on October 30 and is currently charged with Poss S PG 1<1 G 481.115 (b) (FS). The bond on that charge is $10,000. He is also charged with Resisting Arrest Search or Transp (MA) and has a bond of $5,000 on that charge.

Burby said that additional charges are pending, as this case is still under investigation.
