Man found deceased near Jasper Walmart yesterday afternoon has been identified

Jasper Patrol Lieutenant Garrett Foster said, "On Thursday February 1st at approximately 3pm Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of West Gibson Street to the wooded area between Walmart and Lee Nails in response to an unresponsive subject."

Foster went on to say that when Officers arrived, they saw the white male slumped over sitting Indian style with his legs crossed. He had drug paraphernalia in the immediate area leading investigators to believe the subject died due to possible drug overdose, however an autopsy has been ordered which will reveal the cause of death.

According to investigators there was no evidence of foul play at the scene.

The man has been identified as 49-year-old Jeremiah Brent Benoi from the Temple, Texas area.
