Updated information: Major accident on Hwy 96 near CR 440 this morning
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a crash on U.S. Highway 96, near County Road 440, that occurred today, February 6.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 8:26 a.m., a 1996 GMC tree bucket truck was parked on the north shoulder. It is reported that the driver of a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado failed to drive in a single lane and struck the rear of the GMC.
The driver of the GMC, identified as 52-year-old Aaron Denby of Kirbyville, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. His two passengers were also transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 29-year-old Tyler Whitmire of Brookeland, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Roganville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mike Smith said, "At 8:34 AM, RVFD was dispatched to a 2 vehicle crash on US Hwy 96 at CR 440. We responded with Engine 1 and 4 personnel. Big thank you to Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department, SETX First Responders, Kirbyville Police Department, JCSO, Texas DPS, Allegiance EMS, Hatch's Wrecker Service, and Patrick's Wrecker Service for the help."
