Updated information: Major accident in Beech Grove sends 5 to area hospitals, some with serious injuries

At 5:51pm Thursday night, Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles on US Highway 190 west of Jasper near FM 777 in the Beech Grove community.
Beech Grove Fire Chief James Gunter said, "Arriving units found that two vehicles had collided, causing major damage to each. There were five people occupying both vehicles, including small children, who were injured. One vehicle occupant was trapped."
Beech Grove VFD personnel began to assess the patients and extricated the one trapped occupant.
Allegiance Mobile Health - Jasper EMS utilized 3 MICU units to transport all five patients, some with serious injuries, to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital and Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Department of Public Safety Information Sargent Shana Clark said, "The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 5:50 p.m., a 2007 Lincoln Town Car was traveling west and slowed to make a left turn into a private drive. It is reported that a 1999 Chevrolet pickup was traveling west and crested a hilltop, where it came upon the Lincoln. The driver of the Chevrolet applied a heavy brake to avoid striking the Lincoln, and skidded into the east bound lane, where it was struck by a 2011 GMC Terrain traveling east. The Lincoln Town Car was not struck."
The driver of Lincoln was not injured. Their information is not available at this time.
According to Clark, The driver and one passenger of the Chevrolet was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. Their information is not available at this time.
The driver and two child passengers, a 5-year-old and a 7-year-old, were transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. Their information is also not available at this time.
US Highway 190 remained closed for over an hour while the accident was investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety - Southeast Texas Region and Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
BGVFD responded with Engine 11, Tanker 11, and 12 firefighters. Assistance was provided by Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Dept with two firefighters.
