Major accident claimed the life of local Officer
A beloved former Kirbyville Police Officer, and Jasper County Deputy was in a serious accident earlier today.
Sadly, 44-year-old Christopher Sherer succumbed to injuries sustained during the crash and was pronounced deceased by medical staff at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
Chris was currently with Jasper Police Department, working at Jasper ISD.
A fellow officer had this to say about Chris, "He loved kids, and his community. He was selfless and always doted on his wife and his girls."
He will be greatly missed.

The Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the crash on Farm-to-Market Road 252, near County Road 298, that occurred today, April 5, 2024.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 1 p.m., a 2013 Ram 1500 was traveling south. It is reported that for an unknown reason at this time, the driver traveled across the northbound lane and into the west ditch, where it sideswiped a tree and struck another one head-on, causing the Ram to overturn.
The driver, identified as 44-year-old Christopher Sherer of Jasper, was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
