Large boat, SUV, and loaded log truck in two separate accidents, feet from one another

An unusual accident happened on Hwy 96, near Cr 249 yesterday.

According to the crash investigation, at approximately 3:10 p.m., a 2021 GMC Yukon towing a large boat was traveling south on 96. It is reported that during a period of heavy rainfall, the boat trailer began to sway side to side, which caused both the vehicle and boat to travel off the road to the right where it struck multiple trees, knocking the boat off the trailer.

Just a few minutes later, at 3:25 pm, a fully loaded 2012 Peterbilt log truck was traveling north. It is reported that traffic was slowed due to the previous crash. The driver of the Peterbilt traveled off of the road to the right and struck a mailbox to prevent crashing into the slower moving traffic ahead.

The log truck driver, identified as 47-year-old Joey Quesenberry of Jasper, was not injured.

The driver and two passengers in the Yukon were not injured. The driver is identified as 40-year-old Thomas Wallis of Beaumont.
