KVFD cautions against burning even though there isn't a burn ban in Jasper County currently
Kirbyville VFD 1st Assistant Chief Steven Sowder offered some words of caution regarding the weather we are currently having. "Although Jasper County is not currently in a Burn Ban, the following weather warning would indicate that it would not be a good decision to burn. Relative Humidity (RH) is very low. That dampness that we all love in SE Texas is not there, so it will be easy for a fire to start and continue to burn."
All neighboring County's have enacted burn bans this week, but Jasper County is waiting until they are more certain it is necessary. Sowder continued, "The bottom line is basically saying that if a fire gets started, it could get out of hand really fast and would be hard to get under control. Hot embers from any fire can land and start their own spot fires, further downwind, making them harder to get under control. Please make wise decisions when it comes to starting a fire for any purpose".
Jasper County Judge Mark Allen said, "No burn ban yet. Conditions are expected to worsen tomorrow (Wednesday) though, so depending on what our KBDI (Keetch-Byram Drought Index) is and what the Texas Forest Service’s fire danger projections are, I foresee an order being issued very soon."
