Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department was called out to 22375 Hwy 96 S. in Kirbyville at 6:25 Tuesday afternoon.

Kirbyville Fire Chief Greg Ellis said that the fire burned right up to the house. "This wind isn't playing. We're not under a burn ban, but with the humidity like it is and especially with the wind blowing this much, it doesn't make sense to burn anything!"
With all the recent fires, there are many who question what they can and can't do. First of all without a ban there are no rules however, common sense should dictate things like burning garbage outside is dangerous. Ellis said that even throwing a cigarette out a window seems like a benign thing to do, but it can be very dangerous. One cigarette can start a forest fire. Also if you want to grill outdoors please be very careful because it's the same thing. The wind can catch the sparks and embers and cause a fire.
Ellis added, "Think about your neighbor. That fire you cause can burn a house down. Just like with this house the fire came straight up to the house and I mean it was right there at it! If we had been any later we could have lost this home!"
Shortly after 8:00 pm Kirbyville Fire was called back out to the scene due to a flare up of the embers.
