Kirbyville man shot and killed in presumed self-defense shooting
A Kirbyville man was shot and killed last night when he pulled a gun on a man in Lumberton.
Lumberton Police Chief Danny Sullins said that just before 8 p.m. Wednesday 51-year-old Waylon Mark Palmore pulled his gun on the unidentified man in front of Papa John's Pizza. When the man's son saw what was happening, he pulled his gun and shot Palmore before his dad could be shot.
According to Sullins, Palmore was inside the store and possibly intoxicated when an argument ensued and as Palmore walked out the door, he threw a pizza box at the man as he walked into the establishment. The man questioned Palmore's actions and that is when Palmore pulled a 9mm pistol and pointed it at the man. At this time, the unidentified son saw what was happening, pulled his weapon, and fired 'four to six' bullets striking Palmore in the head, killing him. The father was also struck in the wrist by a ricochete. He was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.
The shooting is being considered a case of self-defense. Neither the father nor the son have been identified and both men are cooperating with the police.
