KCISD Tax Rate Election for 2024-25 school year
Kirbyville CISD has proposed a tax rate election for the 2024-25 school year and we need to get information out related to this event. Early voting starts Monday, October 21st at the Administration Building (Booker-Horn building, 204 E. Main St., Kirbyville, TX 75956) and runs M-F 7AM-4PM through November 1st. We have posted a lot of information regarding the Tax Rate Election on our website at: https://www.kirbyvillecisd.org/board/2024-tax-rate-election that includes an informational video, a one page flyer, an efficiency audit, and other information about tax rate elections and school funding.
At this point the Board of Trustees voted on the tax rate on August 19, 2024 which triggered the Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE). The district has put out information through the district facebook page, posted flyers in the community, spoken publicly at Open House, held a public hearing on the efficiency audit, and shared information on the district website.
The main things voters may want to know is that the Kirbyville CISD is asking for approval of 3 cents on the maintenance & operation(M&O) portion of the tax rate which is a little over 1 cent as compared to last school year. Approval of the tax rate would cost the average homeowner about $6 as compared to last year and would generate approximately $117,000 locally and $710,000 would be provided to the district from the state. The state school finance laws require voter approval to access this part of the Texas public school funding. Most other school districts in the area and across the state have already been through this process. This would allow the district to be competitive with salaries for teachers/staff, and maintain instructional and extra-curricular programs provided for students.
