Judge Cochran sponsors Economic Development Team in the wake of plant closure

Newton County Judge Ronnie Cochran said in a statement, "Recent plant closing announcements, in neighboring counties, will result in many people losing their jobs. I personally experienced this many years ago and it was devastating for me and my family. I know that many Newton County residents will be hurt by this and my office feels the same. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers". Cochran continued, "As your County Judge, I have chosen to sponsor an Economic Development Team, and more details will be coming soon.

This team will consist of a chairperson and four members from throughout the county. I have chosen Commissioner Leanord Powell Jr. as chairman and my office is in the process of selecting members. I know that these words will not provide any sense of immediate relief, but my hope is that this effort encourages each of you that we are doing everything in our power to promote and expand job opportunities and growth for Newton County".
